Gifts of appreciated stock or mutual funds are among the most advantageous forms of philanthropic giving. Making a gift of securities is simple and offers a number of important benefits.
Your gift of securities can go towards operating support, the capital campaign, or any specific program at Hale Reservation.
What is the Advantage of Donating Stock vs Cash?
- You get a federal income tax charitable deduction if you file an itemized return.
- You can deduct for the securities’ full fair market value if shares have been held 12 months or longer.
- Capital gains tax is eliminated
If you hold securities that have declined in value, it is generally advisable to sell them and then donate the cash proceeds to Hale Reservation, Inc. In this way, you can establish a tax loss and claim an income tax charitable deduction for the cash gift.
Effective Date of Your Gift A gift of securities is considered complete on the date that the securities irrevocably leave your control. If the securities are transferred electronically, the gift is the date on which the securities are moved out of your account. If you hand over or mail the securities, the gift date is the date of the postmark.

WANTED: Seeking organized groups interested in community service projects. If you are a scout group or a company and you wish help in the maintenance of a great community resource please consider lending a hand at Hale. Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear sturdy footwear. Hand tools will be provided.

Every year Hale Reservation receives gifts in memory of someone who may have passed away. In addition, gifts frequently come to Hale in honor of someone. These honorary occasions include birthdays, weddings or are simply to recognize someone.

Planned Giving- The Hale Heritage Society
Planned giving is a fantastic way to provide support for Hale Reservation and at the same time create a lasting legacy for you and your family. Gifts established in estate documents or gifts of life insurance policies are acknowledged through membership in the Hale Heritage Society.

A gift of real estate may benefit Hale Reservation in many ways. Land that abuts the current primary site adds to the total land holdings and enhances the expanse of property available for wildlife and/or programming. Land in other areas can either provide an “outpost” for Hale programming or may be utilized as an asset in other ways.
Hale Reservation will accept land with or without restrictions placed upon it.
